Description

R-1234ze is a hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerant developed by Honeywell Fluorochemicals. It is designed to replace R-134a in refrigeration systems and chillers as a solution with minimal climate impact. Its Global Warming Potential (GWP) is approximately 1, a value significantly lower than traditional refrigerants, thereby contributing to the reduction of the greenhouse effect and ensuring compliance with current environmental regulations.

Under ambient conditions, the atmospheric lifetime of R-1234ze is approximately 18 days—considerably shorter than the 13+ years of R-134a—making this refrigerant an excellent choice for sustainable applications. Its thermodynamic properties allow for energy efficiency levels similar to or higher than those of R-134a, maintaining optimal condensing pressures and reliable performance in industrial refrigeration systems.

From a safety perspective, R-1234ze is classified as A2L according to ASHRAE 34/ISO 817 standards. While it is non-flammable at normal ambient temperatures, it possesses a very low level of flammability that requires appropriate system design and installation precautions.
