Kryon Heated Diode Leak Detector

The Kryon® Heated Diode Leak Detector is a portable electronic leak detector designed to identify refrigerant gas leaks and nitrogen-hydrogen mixtures with a sensitivity of up to 3 grams/year. Ideal for HVAC/R technicians, it allows for quick and reliable inspection of air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

Description

This electronic leak detector with heated sensor uses a microprocessor and a semiconductor sensor to provide accurate and realistic detection signals. It is capable of identifying even very small leaks, thanks to adjustable sensitivity and a 7-LED tricolor visual scale that gives an immediate indication of the presence of gas.

The device is designed to detect a wide range of refrigerant gases (including HFCs, HFOs, 1234yf, and blends), as well as nitrogen-hydrogen mixtures (commonly used for pressure testing). The 40 cm flexible stainless steel probe facilitates access to critical points in the system.

The package includes a 220 V power adapter with MicroUSB output, allowing the device to be powered directly; the AA alkaline batteries required for operation are not included. The unit is supplied with a calibration certificate issued by an accredited laboratory, which can also be used for F-Gas certification purposes.

FAQ

PFAS are a large family of fluorinated chemicals characterized by high stability and environmental persistence, making them subject to potential regulatory restrictions in Europe. Some fluorinated refrigerants used in HVAC/R systems fall within the chemical definition of PFAS, which is why the regulatory debate directly affects the refrigeration and air conditioning sector.

The F-Gas Regulation already regulates the use of fluorinated refrigerants through progressive GWP limits and a gradual reduction in available quotas. The potential introduction of restrictions on PFAS risks creating regulatory overlap, adding further constraints on substances already regulated by the F-Gas framework.

If applied indiscriminately, restrictions on PFAS could reduce the availability of some refrigerants and impact system design. Therefore, the European debate is exploring solutions that keep refrigerants within the F-Gas regulatory framework, thus ensuring a gradual and sustainable technological transition for the HVAC/R sector.
