With CUBO₂ Smart, SCM Frigo presents a new generation of transcritical CO₂ condensing units, designed for small and medium power applications where performance and silence must go hand in hand with reduced emissions and consumption.
Efficiency and compactness for zero-impact refrigeration
The CUBO₂ Smart range is SCM Frigo's answer to the needs of sustainable refrigeration in the commercial and industrial sectors.
These compact, fully transcritical and plug & play units are equipped with TOSHIBA BLDC rotary compressors with integrated inverter, EC gas cooler and CAREL electronic control for precise capacity modulation from 25% to 100%.
The result is optimal energy management and extremely stable operation, even in variable climatic conditions, with COPs of up to 7.2 in medium-temperature applications.
Thanks to the standard inverter, each unit automatically adapts its power to the actual needs of the system, avoiding on/off cycles and ensuring operational continuity.
The integrated configuration reduces the footprint to just 1320 x 650 x 820 mm , while noise levels remain between 40 and 37 dB(A) — among the lowest values in the category.
Tailor-made solutions for medium and low temperature applications
The CUBO₂ Smart units cover a wide power range from 0.6 to 10.6 kW , in medium temperature (MTDX) and low temperature (BTDX) configurations.
The Low Noise (LN) versions are ideal for urban or residential installations, where acoustic comfort is a fundamental requirement.
Each model is designed for Multi-Split or separate branch installations, with dedicated connections and optimised circuits to guarantee correct oil return and minimum pressure loss along the pipes.
The high-pressure design (130 bar HP side) and K65 components ensure maximum safety and reliability, while the 8 or 12 litre receiver unit allows optimal management of the CO₂ charge even in complex systems.
CO₂ technology for truly sustainable refrigeration
SCM Frigo is among the pioneers in the use of CO₂ (R744) as a natural and safe refrigerant, with a GWP of 1 and no impact on the ozone layer.
The use of inverter compressors and EC gas coolers guarantees high seasonal efficiencies (MEPS > 3.4), in full compliance with the Ecodesign Directive EN 2009/125/EC.
All this with annual energy consumption reduced by up to 30% compared to traditional fluorinated gas solutions.
CUBO₂ Smart units have been designed to operate in a wide ambient temperature range, from –35°C to +40°C, ensuring constant performance even in harsh or tropical climates.
The optional winter kit extends operation down to –20°C, while the adiabatic water spray kit optimises summer performance by reducing the condensation temperature.
Maximum control and operational reliability
The CAREL control system advancedly manages capacity modulation, pressure regulation and safety functions.

The presence of an integrated oil module (separators, tank, return valve) and gas cooler protection with epoxy or electro-finish treatments ensures maximum efficiency over time even in corrosive environments.
Quietness and ease of installation
CUBO₂ Smart is designed with an “ install and forget ” logic: thanks to the pre-assembled and factory-tested configuration, assembly only requires connection to the refrigerant lines and the electrical power supply.
The low-noise design — 33 dB(A) in daytime mode, 30 dB(A) at night — allows for installation near public spaces, shops or inhabited buildings, without the need for additional acoustic barriers.
