Microleaks, acidity, and humidity in refrigeration circuits: General Gas' GK-Lab solutions

Three critical issues in refrigeration circuits and three dedicated solutions: General Gas's GK-Lab additives for micro-leaks, acidity, and humidity.

Proper management of a refrigeration system is not limited to checking the refrigerant charge or verifying operating conditions. Less obvious phenomena can develop within the circuit which, if neglected, could impact the system's performance and the lifespan of its components.

These include micro-leaks of refrigerant , the presence of acidic substances and residual humidity , conditions that require specific interventions and adequate tools.

To meet these needs, General Gas has developed the GK-Lab line, consisting of solutions dedicated to the maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

Refrigerant micro-leaks: intervene directly in the circuit

Microleaks represent one of the most complex problems to manage in refrigeration systems, especially when they are small or located in difficult-to-access areas.

GK-Lab KryonLeakGuard is an additive developed for the repair of microleaks in refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

Once introduced into the circuit, the product circulates together with the refrigerant and lubricant until it reaches the point affected by the leak, where it contributes to the formation of a stable and flexible seal .

The formulation is compatible with PAG, POE and mineral lubricants and is polymer-free, a feature designed to avoid possible blockages of delicate circuit elements, such as capillaries and expansion valves, as well as of the equipment used during maintenance operations.

Acidity in the refrigeration circuit: why it can become a problem

Another element to keep under control is the acidity present within the system.

Lubricant degradation, the presence of contaminants, or moisture can contribute to the formation of acidic substances, which can affect metal components and the compressor.

For this type of intervention, General Gas proposes GK-Lab KryonAcid Stop , a neutralizing additive designed to bind to the acid particles present in the circuit and limit their effects.

The product can be used both as part of preventative maintenance and in interventions following compressor replacement, when it is particularly important to check and restore adequate conditions within the circuit.

KryonAcid Stop is also compatible with PAG, POE and mineral lubricants.

Residual moisture and ice formation

Even very small quantities of water can affect the correct functioning of a refrigeration circuit.

Under certain conditions, humidity present in the system can in fact contribute to the formation of ice near the expansion valves or capillary tubes , interfering with the circulation of the refrigerant and the operation of the system.

GK-Lab KryonDry Nova is the dehydrating additive developed by General Gas to intervene on the presence of residual humidity.

The formulation binds the microparticles of water present in the circuit at a molecular level, transforming them into a stable solution capable of circulating together with the lubricant without altering its viscosimetric properties.

KryonDry Nova is suitable for use with PAG, POE and mineral lubricants and is intended for maintenance work on refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

Three products for three different maintenance needs

The GK-Lab range therefore allows for targeted intervention on three different critical issues:

  • KryonLeakGuard , for the management of refrigerant micro-leaks;
  • KryonAcid Stop , to neutralize the acidity present in the circuit;
  • KryonDry Nova , to act on residual humidity.

The goal is to provide technicians with specific solutions to use in the various phases of maintenance, helping to preserve the reliability, components, and operating conditions of the refrigeration system.

GK-Gun Application Systems

General Gas supports additives with tools dedicated to their introduction into the circuit.

The range includes GK-Gun SMART , intended for 8 ml cartridges, and GK-Gun PRO , for use with 48 ml cartridges, to which specific fittings can be connected for different applications.

Complete configurations such as the HVACR SMART, HVACR PRO and AUTO SMART kits are also available.

GK-Lab additives are offered in various formats, including 8 ml disposable syringes, 8 ml SMART cartridges and 48 ml PRO cartridges , allowing you to identify the most suitable solution depending on the intervention to be performed.

GK-Lab solutions also at Chillventa 2026

The GK-Lab line will also be among the solutions that General Gas will present at Chillventa 2026, the international event dedicated to refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation and heat pump technologies.

The event will therefore offer an opportunity to discuss the characteristics of the additives and tools used for refrigeration circuit maintenance directly with the company.

General Gas will be present in Hall 4, Booth 4-103.
