Gomax® Quadra HPSteel: flexibility comes to the main refrigerant circuit

A new range of thermoplastic hoses for CO₂ (R744) refrigeration systems, engineered for working pressures up to 130 bar and operating temperatures from -45 °C to +150 °C. With Quadra HPSteel, Gomax® extends the use of flexible connections to the main refrigerant circuit.

Gomax® introduces Quadra HPSteel, a new range of thermoplastic hoses specifically engineered for the demanding operating conditions of subcritical and transcritical CO₂ (R744) refrigeration systems.

Developed as a complete hose system with dedicated fittings, Quadra HPSteel offers a flexible alternative to traditional rigid copper tubing, providing greater design flexibility and simplifying the assembly of refrigeration units.

The range is designed for a maximum working pressure of 130 bar, an operating temperature range of -45 °C to +150 °C, and a 5:1 safety factor.

Flexible connections at the heart of the refrigeration unit

In CO₂ refrigeration systems, flexible thermoplastic hoses are already widely used for auxiliary connections, such as pressure gauges, pressure switches and oil return lines.

With Quadra HPSteel, this technology can also be integrated into the main refrigerant circuit, including the compressor discharge and suction lines.

The flexibility of thermoplastic hoses simplifies line routing and allows connections to be adapted to the available space within the unit. By replacing rigid copper tubing, Quadra HPSteel also helps isolate the compressor from the rest of the system, reducing the transmission of vibrations to other components and limiting mechanical stress on the connections.

This approach gives OEMs greater design flexibility while meeting the demanding performance requirements of CO₂ refrigeration units.

Performance and construction: engineered for high-pressure applications

Quadra HPSteel features an inner tube made of a special high-temperature-resistant thermoplastic polymer, a reinforcement layer designed according to hose size, and an outer thermoplastic cover.

The reinforcement varies depending on the nominal diameter:

  • DN2 and DN4: synthetic braid reinforcement;

  • DN6, DN8, DN10 and DN12: high-tensile steel braid reinforcement.

The range is available in six nominal sizes, from DN2 to DN12, providing flexible connection solutions for different applications within refrigeration units.

Factory-Made hose assemblies and corrosion-resistant fittings

Quadra HPSteel is available exclusively as factory-made hose assemblies, featuring dedicated fittings and configurable hose lengths to meet specific installation requirements.

Different female fitting combinations are available, including straight and 90° elbow configurations.

The carbon-steel fittings feature zinc-nickel plating to enhance corrosion resistance. Salt spray testing conducted in accordance with UNI EN ISO 9227 showed that oxidation effects on zinc-nickel-plated fittings occur only after more than twice the exposure time required for standard zinc-plated fittings under the same test conditions.
