Digital Realty inaugurates AMS11: the new AI-ready data center with advanced cooling systems
Digital Realty opens AMS11: an AI-ready data center with hybrid liquid and air cooling, 27 MW of IT capacity, and 100% renewable power.
Digital Realty expands its presence in the Netherlands with the opening of AMS11 , a new data center designed to support artificial intelligence applications and high-density workloads.
The facility is part of the broader PlatformDIGITAL® ecosystem and represents a significant step in the creation of sustainable, high-performance digital infrastructures.
An infrastructure designed for power, connectivity and AI
With a surface area of 12,000 m² and an installed IT power of approximately 27 MW , AMS11 was designed to meet the growing demand for data processing and AI-native applications.
Proximity to major European interconnection nodes and direct access to hundreds of service providers allow the data center to offer a high-performance network, capable of guaranteeing minimal response times and high availability.
This positions AMS11 as one of the most functional facilities in EMEA for companies requiring rapid scalability, secure environments and interconnected data flows.
Hybrid cooling for high density loads
The technological heart of the plant is its thermal management system , designed to support the deployment of high-power technologies related to artificial intelligence.
AMS11 adopts a hybrid solution that combines:
- direct liquid cooling , essential for efficiently dissipating the heat generated by denser IT equipment;
- air cooling , integrated to manage operational flexibility in mixed configurations.
This architecture allows you to optimize energy consumption , increase cooling capacity and stably support applications that require significantly more power than traditional data centers.
It's a concrete example of how the cooling sector is evolving towards increasingly advanced and AI-specific solutions.
Renewable energy and sustainable design
AMS11 is powered by 100% renewable energy , in line with Digital Realty’s strategy for all its European properties.
The choice to use green electricity and highly efficient cooling systems reduces the overall environmental footprint and contributes to the development of a more sustainable data center network, capable of meeting the energy needs of a changing market.
The site's construction is proceeding in phases: the first two are already operational, while total completion is expected by 2026.
The project also generated a positive impact on the local economy thanks to the large number of workers involved in the construction.
